Which of the Different Travel Agents is Best?

by Hannah Marshall on March 11, 2010

What are travel agents willing to offer any possible client and are their services beneficial to the everyday traveler? What should a traveler look for when deciding over agencies and the packages they have available for purchasing? This article will be discussing how travel agencies can work for any kind of traveler in terms of support or assistance during trips.

Travel agents serve the purpose of allowing the public to have a place to go to for any need with regard to travel assistance, travel products, and other traveling services. These agencies regularly make deals with suppliers when it comes to products from airlines, cruise lines, railways, cars, and hotels. Agencies have come up with a series of travel tours and other packages which are inclusive of everything from accommodations to transfers and more travelers patronize this convenient element of traveling.

Travel agents can also cater to business professionals other than their normal services for everyday travelers. Business and commercial traveling are some of the more popular options managed by travel agencies and they can do this on a selective basis. There are agencies holding office abroad for they act as middleman selling foreign companies’ services to local clientele.

A British banking facility offered services to their most wealthy patrons and that is when the concept of travel agents began. 1758 is when travel service entered the scene and the later half of the nineteenth century is when the idea blossomed. Trains and railway systems were the transport of choice for the earlier kinds of package tours made by the first travel agencies to emerge.

The 1920’s gave great promise to travel agents as the introduction of aviation as another form of transport became evident. The working class segment of society also enjoyed the perks from travel agencies which started with clients from the middle and upper classes only. The working class availed of assistance when it came to the occasional beach holiday where agencies are flooded with assistance requests.

Travel agents act as local sellers for all travel products and services supplied to them by manufacturers allowing the public to avail of such services. Travel products are not stocked instead they are ordered as orders by clients are confirmed through bookings or reservations. Travel products at discount rates earn travel agencies commissions with every sale they make and every order they place out.

Travel agents can deliver in house insurance, room reservations, car rentals, and currency exchange as supplementary services. The problem may be caused by particular agencies selecting their clientele and their suppliers and refusing to service others. The ability to spend and the capability to give revenue may affect an agency’s direction with regard to favoring a supplier or client and denying service to the other.

Technology can either be the edge or the cause for alarm with travel agents and these are often unpredictable for such agencies. The internet can help agencies get a hold of more prospective clients as well as potential suppliers who might want to strike a deal with them. The internet can result to travelers booking their own trips directly not needing agency services anymore.

Travel agents can cause a traveler to incur more expenses but the convenience and maximization of the trip is what a traveler gets in return and this is more often than not service well worth the expense incurred. Be aware of the portfolio of an agency to be sure of their reputation in the industry. Decide to hire travel agents when details of a trip are rather complex and seem unmanageable.
